Over the next 15 years, Michael continued to serve as a sales agent for various international glass equipment companies, providing solutions from cutting tables and insulating glass lines to diamond tooling and consumables.

Towards the end of 2001, IGE had grown substantially, and Michael and Carolyn determined that the company must hire another person in order to fully serve their customers’ and manufacturers’ needs properly. In November 2001, Manuel Borda joined IGE as its first official employee, where he remains an esteemed member of the IGE Team. In early 2002, Michael, Carolyn and Manny moved the company south to its current headquarters in Jupiter, FL.

1978

In 1978, Michael Spellman, IGE’s Founder and CEO, began his journey in the glass industry by selling optical abrasives, which quickly led from optical to flat glass. Very shortly thereafter, Michael became involved with selling glass fabrication machinery, and thus began his career as a driving force to automate production for North America’s flat glass fabricators.

1980 - 1995

In 1996, Michael officially formed IGE and began the company’s evolution from a sales agency to a value added distributor. Michael’s wife, Carolyn Spellman, left her position at Fidelity Investments and joined Michael in launching the distributorship.

In a short period of time, IGE had secured the exclusive distribution rights for many major industry lines, and was fulfilling spare parts, tooling, and service requests from a company office and warehouse in the Boston, MA area.

2002 - 2004

By the start of 2005, IGE was positioned as one of the leading distributors in the glass industry, and its strong growth continued. IGE assumed new lines as its customer base also grew.

IGE purchased a building in Jupiter, and built an office space and warehouse. That very same year, IGE added two members to the IGE Team, who also remain in their key leadership roles today: Jeff Spicer and Raul Hernandez.

Over the decades, IGE continues to serve as the industry’s leading value-added distributor, bringing the most technologically advanced glass fabrication solutions to market. IGE’s CEO & Founder has been formally recognized on multiple occasions as one of the “Most Influential People” in the glass industry, as well as a trailblazer in moving the effort to automate forward.

Michael and Carolyn, together with their valued IGE Team, offer true fabrication expertise in sourcing fabrication solutions, a full support staff, a highly trained technical team, and a fully stocked spare parts, supplies & tooling warehouse, right here in North America. IGE is well positioned to continue serving North Americas’ fabricators with the finest solutions available today.
